major delays at sfo yesterday. will it effect your holiday travel plans today? kind of a rainy pattern last night into this morning. are we done with this or more on the way? plus it happened just hours ago a terrorist attack in tel aviv. it may be tied to the crisis in the middle east. all ahead on ktvu channel 2 morning news. good morning, to you welcome to a brand new day, it's wednesday, november 21st i'm dave clark. >> and i'm claudine wong in for pam cook this morning. let's get a quick look at your weather and traffic. steve, that rain already causing problems. >> very much so. >> roads, airports. >> exactly. it's a morning event that start to taper off in the next couple of hours. but not before we have decent totals. three inches of rain up toward russian river area. you can see our front is moving through right now. very mild. 60s on the temps. still rain to the north. we'll talk about that coming up

in five minutes. steve, we've had commute problems already as we look at the commute pictures here. this is a light looking 237 as you drive through, but we've had slow traffic already and also we've had some standing water that is causing problems. moving along eastbound 580 in livermore near greenville road we have a truck accident blocking three lanes eastbound. fortunately it is not in the commute direction but the traffic is going to be slow in the area. at 5:00 let's go back to the desk. police investigating a death in oakland overnight and stormy weather may have been a factor. ktvu alex savidge is live near the rock ridge shopping center where a dive team found the body of a man who fell to his death off a steep cliff. alex. authorities believe this man lost his footing. he went out looking for his lost cat behind his house last night and because the weather was wet last night, the ground was wet, he likely slipped and fell off of this steep cliff we will show you here.

his house sits at the top of the cliff. he likely fell off of this cliff into this water filled rock quarry that is right behind the shopping center. it's believed that he drowned his body was found earl lid this morning after a five-hour search. a rescue team from the oakland fire department launched that search just after 7:00 last night when the man's friend reported him missing. the man's flashlight was found about halfway down the hill by authorities but there was no sign of the man himself. rescuers put a boat in the water and repelled down the side of the cliff looking for him. eventually the alameda county sheriffs dive team began an under water search and just before 1:00 this morning divers found the man's bodies at the bottom of this old quarry about 30 feet below the surface of the water. battalion chief told us the rain may have played a role in this deadly accident. >> it's raining and it's wet

back there. so this person may have gone back looking for their cats many times. but today because of the weather, may have lost their footing and fell in the water. >> reporter: the fire department says this man may have fallen as close to 100 feet down into the water. firefighter says they did end up finding a cat on the hillside of this quarry. they believe it belongs to the has been who died here last night. they are not identifying the man who died last night. they are only describing him being in his late 50s or early 60s. live this morning in oakland alex savidge. time now 5:03. roads are still wet. it rained hard and steady all night causing a big mess out there on the roads. several spinouts and fender bender have been reported and a lot of drivers had no choice. they had to drive slower just to keep from losing control. at the airports a real nightmare on one of the busiest travel days of the year.

ktvu christien kafton is live at sfo right now. there have been major flight delays so how is it now christien? >> reporter: you know what, we were inside earlier and it's looking pretty good right now. there is a lot of activity that is starting to pick up at sfo as you might imagine only the day before thanksgiving. you can see a lot of vehicles here and take a look you can see still a lot of wet roads as the cabs pull in and drop people off and folks drop folks off at the airport. it's still raining this morning. and not the thing holiday traveler want to see as they head out to the holiday weekend. ktvu camera was there early this morning as delayed passengers collected their luggage. at least 81 flights were canceled yesterday due to rain. the low cloud cover yesterday forced the airport to shut down one runway and alter flight patterns. they restricted the number of run rays to -- number of flights to 27 per hour as opposed to 90 flights per hour. >> it's one of those things that you know, it happens.

bad luck i guess. >> reporter: yeah very bad luck. he was on that delayed flight from phoenix. seven hours. we were inside sfo a a few minutes ago and had a chance to take a look at the arrival and departure boards. things seem to be moving very smoothly. we saw a few delays. one from fort lauderdale. another from boston. of course, it is early today so there hasn't been an opportunity for those delays to start stacking up and cause a major problem. as you can see there is rain here. we heard about the possibility of other weather delays throughout the country. we'll be monitoring that and the flights in and out of sfo and the other bay area airports so we can let you know exactly how your holiday travel may go today. for now we are live at sfo christien kafton. happening now we are also keeping an eye on the thanksgiving travel rush in the south bay. these are live pictures right

outside ofmy theta san jose. for all travel information stay right here with us throughout mornings on 2. we'll also have more information on ktvu news at 5:00 and 6:00 tonight. new this morning a bomb exploded on a city bus in tel aviv as the fighting continues between israel and gaza. the bus was passing military headquarters when the bomb went off. at least ten people were hurt. there are reports that a man brought a package on a bus. that package exploded after he got off the bus. this is new video of secretary clinton meeting with the palestinian president in the west bank this morning. coming up at 5:15 the chances for a negotiated end to the fighting. time is 5:05.

26-year-old jonathan wilbanks is facing charges of murder, attempted murder and robbery. he and another men are accused of four robberies. and a deadly attempted carjacking and a shooting that injured a police officer on friday night. the two were caught on surveillance video at the 7- eleven where the man was shot and killed by the suspects. a reward is being offered for any information leading to the arrest of the second man. berkeley high school students are bringing weapons to school or coming to campus under the influence. 10% of berkeley high school juniors in the california healthy kids survey reported bringing a weapon to school this year. that is actually down from 15% who said the same in 2010. now the number of 11th graders who came to school under the

influence of alcohol or marijuana that number also fell to 35%. that is down from 55% in 2008. law enforcement agencies are urging drivers to obey the laws of the road. nearly 40% of all fatal collisions involve an impaired driver. the chp will be under maximum enforcement. time now 5:08. sal, it was still raining hard when we came in so we know what the road conditions are. it's slippery and it's not good. >> it's not good dave and claudine. as a matter of fact, we've had a lot of spinouts. we've had a big rig that spun out. still there in the lanes. the traffic is not really busy because that is the noncommute direction. but it will be there for a bit according to chp. let's go to the bay bridge toll plaza it is light coming into san francisco but you can see it's wet there.

it could be raining there now. it's not i can't really tell from this picture. but certainly it is wet on the roads. and if you are driving on 237 westbound and eastbound you can see traffic is moving along okay. let's go to steve. thank you, sal. our system is moving through. our observer mike 1.18 on the rain total. it looks like the back edge of that front is moving closer. there is splash and dash activity to the north. so not done yet. there is still plenty they don't have a lot upstream but there is still come. it looks like a lot of cloud cover, fog probably misty and drizzly. but still there is plenty to go here. you take a quick look here from marin county into san francisco and daly city and oakland. that is pretty steady. there are a few breaks in it. the rain is not that heavy.

occasionally there is bursts to moderate to heavy. it looks like finally a back edge toward san mateo and into the santa cruz mountains. our system moving through but you can see there is still enhancement taking place. i think we're in for a cloudy day here and morning rain and tapering off to drizzly light rain. windy up in the hills. partial clearing later. partial clearing later. very mild. we're in the 50s right now to 60s. wouldn't take much to get to about 5-7 degrees warmer. that would be it. this that is not a cold system. it's raining up in tahoe. partly sunny and cloudy on thursday. there will be big-time night and morning fog in the valley. coast and most of the bay and peninsula look pretty good. a little warmer. although cooler sunday and monday. three suspects are under arrest in connection with armed robberies in oakland. how tracking software on cell phones led police to the suspects. warning from the fed chairman to the president and congress about that fiscal

night. the white house says the president trip was successful in showing that asia is strategically important to the u.s. especially as a trading partner. and the white house says the president's visits to myanmar and cambodia demonstrate how the u.s. example can influence other countries. ben bernanke is pushing congress and the obama administration to work out an agreement on the deal to avoid tax hikes and spending cuts. bernanke says without a deal, the fiscal cliff could trigger a recession next year. congress has to act by january 1st in order to avoid the automatic tax hikes and spending cuts. secretary of state hillary clinton's efforts to help broke aerocease fire in the united states is fading -- breaker a cease fire in the united states is fading. there are reports this hour that israelis are stepping up

air strikes in gaza in retaliation for this bus explosion in tel aviv. israelis are calling it a terrorist attack that hurt at least 18 passengers anaphia bystanders. hamas praised the attack but did not claim responsibility. secretary of state hillary clinton who was in egypt just issued a statement saying the u.s. strongly condemns the attack and ready to provide assistance that israel requires. secretary clinton is calling for a cease fire but also trying to negotiate a longer term solution. >> the goal must be a durable outcome that promotes regional stability and advances the security and legitimate aspirations of israelis and palestinians alike. >> reporter: prior to the bus pomming, there were hopes -- bombing there were hopes for a cease fire but now it seems like the attack was a major set

back in the efforts to deescalate the violence. reporting live from washington, d.c. alison burns ktvu channel 2 news. >> now in the middle of the crisis a 13-year-old israeli boy comes up an invention. how the boy's new app could end up saving lives. the missouri mother who told police his son was plotting a shooting massacre at a movie theater is talking for the first time since her son was arrested. her son recently asked if he was a failure. her son blake was plotting to attack at a movie theater in boulevard during the new twilight movie. investigators say the man had recently purchased two assault rifles and 400 rounds of ammunition. tracking software on cell phones helped police arrest three suspects in connection

with two armed robberies. police say the suspects demanded a woman's cell phone at gunpoint monday night. right on webster street. then they robbed a different woman just a few minutes later on shafter avenue. tracking software led them to 13th avenue that is where they arrested the suspects and recovered the cell phones. jim harbaugh will be peppered with quarterback question. many fans want collin to start full-time after his sterling performance monday night. but the native doesn't want to cause any friction on the team. both he and alex smith are playing well and adds he will be disappointed if he doesn't play more but wants what is best on the campaign. the department of health aims to distribute condoms across the city. it would provide health centers, high schools, office buildings, and nightclubs with condoms. the department of health wants to investigation more than -- invest more than $200,000 on

the safe sex materials. huge increase compared to the condom budget in 2008. let's check back with sal. i know you want everybody to drive, drive, drive carefully. >> there have been a lot of solo vehicle accidents dave and claudine. people losing control of their cars. there are so many i couldn't mention all of them. but i will mention some of the major problems somewhere. eastbound 580 at greenville road jackknifed big rig. it's effecting westbound traffic as well as people take a look at it. eastbound greenville road three lanes are blocked with an overturned truck there. actually it's a jackknifed truck. we have a solo spinout northbound 880. we've had a lot of spinouts all over the place. i want to mention that there is a house fire in san francisco in the bay view near thomas and, ingalls that could have started with a car that started

on fire first. we have a lot of fire units heading to that scene right now. and they're arriving. i'm hearing there -- there is fire in that building. let's go out and take a look at the toll plaza. it is light so far getting into san francisco. and on the east shore freeway, westbound 80 traffic is moderately heavy already. let's go to steve. thank you, sal. a very good morning. decent rain. 1-3 inches so far to the north. lesser amounts south. the system is moving south. and there is enhancement taking place. a little break between but it will be a misty drizzly morning. a warm system. it's raining in tahoe and tricky the last time i checked. rather windy to breezy for some. it looks like rain tapering off toward the north. around clear lake and also into hidden valley. a little bit of rain there. that is not too much. but still it's there. head down toward the north bay and more cloudy than rainy from santa rosa to petaluma. it looks like they are through most of it.

fair field, vacaville getting the rain. toward the east bay you can see lafayette, san ramon still in line for that rain as it moves through. the edge is right along the golden gate bridge. it looks like on the san mateo coast things are calming down a little bit. pretty good rain starting to pick up even down toward south bay and santa cruz mountains from woodside although it looks like san mateo woodside there is a back edge right there. still pushing off toward mountain view. system gets a little enhancement here. but we are just about done with it. mild, windy to the santa cruz mountains. ben lomond has picked up rain. 60s on the temps. really, really mild. we'll see the rain end after probably into the morning hours. then partial clearing but i'll tell you there will be very thick fog. keep that in mind as we go into the holiday weekend. european markets are mixed

this morning after german chancellor said there is new hope for a deal to help reach out of its financial markets. taiwan and south korea bucked the trend with losses of less than 1%. markets open a little more than an hour. let's take a look at how they closed yesterday. dow was down about seven points. nasdaq up and slightly. this morning we are waiting for numbers on the labor market and consumer confidence. but futures are flat. we will keep an eye on those markets for you and let you know when they open. a 12% prop drop in the price of hewlett packard stock. massachusettsive accounting errors. that forced the company to charge off nearly $9 billion. that is the second largest writeoff. there are confirmed reports the fbi and security exchange commission are look into the

time now 5:24. the historic beacon on mt. diablo will be in service on pearl harbor day. there would be worries that the light wouldn't be used this year. but enough work has been completed by volunteers that yes it will shine again. by the way a few pearl harbor survivors plan to be on hand for the december 7th ceremony. a lot of people in israel are turning to a new tool to warn them of an incoming missile attack. it's an app called color red. it was developed by a 13-year- old israeli boy. he lives in the town that is often targeted by palestinian rockets. the app alerts people when there is an attack coming. it will also tell users where the nearest shelter is. so far about 130,000 people have down loaded this app. record number of americans will use food stamps to buy their thanksgiving dinner this

year. the economic policy estimates more than 42 million americans will be on food stamps this thanksgiving. that equivalent to the combined populations of california and connecticut. the u.s. department of agricultural says the use of food stamps has increased 70% since 2007. your time is 5:25. incredible story. a young basketball player a point guard for a small iowa university broke college basketball scoring record last night. his name is jack taylor his from grinnell college. would you believe he scored 138 points. he took 108 shots and he made almost half of them. taylor said it felt like well whatever he threw up was going in. just like that. in the division three game grinnell beat their interstate rival faith baptist church 179- 104. that is a high scoring game. the old record by the way was 113 points.

and he's only this big. time now 5:26. let's check on our wet commute. sal, that is incredible. >> it's not doing all that well. i apologize for not hearing you. the commute is very slow in many areas. let's start with the south bay. northbound 280 traffic still looks good as you drive through 880 but nearby on highway 17 we've had a couple of solo spinouts so please give yourself extra time. and we're seeing slow traffic on the sunol grade. it looks like it's slowing way down. i'm looking here to see if there another solo spinout. there was one earlier. there is a crash reported northbound 680. that one just came in. that very well it's a five-car accident in the center divider. and that is why traffic on the southbound side is going to be slow. let's go to steve. all right, sal, thank you. we do have rain moving through if not rain then fog. visibility at santa rosa has gone from three miles to eight

good morning, to you. welcome back. this is ktvu channel 2 morning news middle of the week it's wednesday, november 21st i'm dave clark. >> and i'm claudine wong. let's head over to steve paulson. watching all that green on your screen, steve. >> green on the screen. that is is exactly right. there is plenty there. although it looks like toward the north bay things are calming down. the front is going through. for some peninsula, south bay, east bay you might encounter morning rain and things will taper off. there is a distinct back tonal that. there is a line right there. we'll talk about this really mild but to the west of that things look to be much better. here is sal. steve, thank you. right now as the rain moves through we've had a lot of fender bender and a lot of solo vehicle accidents.

people losing control. but we also have five car crashes around the bay area. give yourself plenty of extra time. sunol grade traffic southbound is effected. we're looking at it there. the traffic here on 80 westbound is moderately heavy adds you drive through the rain getting out -- as you drive through the rain getting out to the mccarthur maze. if you are getting ready to head out the door, sal said things are a little slow out there. wet roads caused a big mess for drivers overnight. this is what it looked like in oakland when a driver lost control of that rain. this accident happened on northbound 880 near broadway. fortunately no one was hurt. the rain also caused flooding throughout the bay area. this is the scene on the broadway off ramp. it was shot a couple hours ago. chp said five inches of water built up at that time which caused a concern for drivers. 5:32. happening right now we will show you a live look.

san francisco international airport soggy roads out in front. travelers are heading there on one of the busiest travel days of the year. but if you're getting ready to head out to the airport, big delays are possible. this is what sfo looked like around 2:30 this morning. look at all those people there. these passengers arrived at sfo after a seven hour delay. last night about 81 flights had to be canceled when the airport shut down one of the runways because of our weather. >> it's one of those things that you know it happens. bad luck i guess. >> i'm frustrated because i just wanted to come home for thanksgiving and relax and that didn't happen. >> he's not happy at last check there were only a few minor delays at sfo. if you have a flight today, you better check ahead of time on the status before you drive on out there. we're also tracking the thanksgiving travel rush in the

south bay. ktvu channel 2 reporter janine de la vega is live at mineta san jose international airport. janine. >> reporter: so far there are no delays here. that is good news. it looks pretty dead right now. it comes in waves. people are coming up here and unloading their luggage. coming on in. the roads here i don't know if you can tell, they are slick. so be careful when you drive in. now inside the terminal the lines are short and travelers are not waiting much when they go to check in. there is also no delay going through security screening. as the morning goes on, that will most likely change as more passengers arrive. now there are a few changes the tsa has made. passenger 12 and under and people 75 and older do not have to take their shoes off when they go through security. seniors are also allowed to keep on light jackets. this is one of the busiest travel days of the year the airport is encouraging everyone to arrive two hours before

departure. if you can check in online please do so. passengers we spoke to were pleasantly surprised that lines were short so far this morning. >> well, i actually just got out of school yesterday. i had no choice but to travel today. i thought about it this morning i was like oh my gosh there is going to be a million people. but being 4:30 in the morning i think i beat the rush. [ laughter ] >> reporter: airport officials expect passenger activity to increase by 2% compared to last year. the economy parking lot is expected to fill up quickly. that costs $15 a day. airport officials say travelers can park in daily lots four and six and have discounted the parking there to $1 a day. they also have shuttles that will take passengers back and forth here to the terminals. and again, we just checked the flights here and everything so far is running on time. we're going to a little bit later in the morning we will check out what it looks like at

terminal b. reporting live from san jose janine de la vega. >> and for continuing storm and travel coverage down load the ktvu app on your smart phone or ipad. time is 5:35. a very busy day also expected in oakland international airport and port of oakland. workers will be making up for lost time following yesterday's strike. here is some of the video from yesterday's picket line as airport food and beverage workers join the port striking clary call clerical workers and janitors. yesterday as you know was one of the busiest days before the thanksgiving holiday. we're hearing good news now after months of dead lock between the port and the union, the contract talks are resuming. which means the port will be back open for business today.

long lines are expected as those trucks come back to make their deliveries. time is 5:36. a tragedy overnight in oakland. a man died after falling over a steep cliff. ktvu alex savidge is near his home where the victim fell into a quarry that was about 100 feet deep. alex. >> reporter: firefighters believe he fell off of that steep cliff that is right behind his house and then landed in this water filled rock quarry that is down below. man's body was recovered early this morning and believed he drowned. the man was out looking for his lost cat last night when he apparently lost his footing likely because of this rainy weather. rescue team from the oakland fire department launched a search just after 7:00 last night when the man's friend reported him missing. rescuers had a boat on the water. there was one rescuer that repelled down the side of the cliff. eventually the alameda county sheriffs dive team began to do an under water search and very

early this morning just before 1:00 a.m. divers did find the man's body at the bottom of this quarry. one of the divers involved in the recovery described the circle search technique they used. >> they circle in an increasing radius until they clear the area or find the target we're looking for. if they don't find it, then we move to a new location. we used that technique here because of the sheer terrain on the sides. >> reporter: the fire department says this man may have fallen close to 100 feet down into the water. they did find the man's flashlight the one he was using to look for his lost cat and did find a cat up here on the hillside last night above this quarry. they do believe it belongs to man who died. authorities thus far haven't identified the man who died after falling off of this cliff and down into the quarry below. but we do understand he is described as being in his late 50s or early 60s.

a resident of oakland. live this morning alex savidge. a san francisco deputy sheriff remains on the job after pleading not guilty to misdemeanor charges stemming from an out of control argument. according to the san francisco chronicle the incident happened last month when deputy green was off duty. green got into an argument where her sister's neighbor over work he had been hired to do for his sister. green has pled not guilty to charges of brandishing a weapon, felony conspiracy and making a threat. green is now on administrative duty. more information about a deadly suicide bombing. it happened in kabul in a neighborhood that is home to many foreign organizations. two a began guards died five civilians were hurt. the taliban is claiming responsibility for this attack. afghan police say the two bombers were targeting the

american military base. secretary of state hillary clinton is in egypt. she is still working with other world leaders trying to come up with a cease fire in the fighting against israel and gaza. coming up at 5:45 while the diplomats are negotiating, the impact of all of that fighting on the people who live on both sides of this conflict. your time now is 5:39. we want to go back out to sal castaneda. sal. >> it looks like it has been contained to one alarm at the corner of thomas and ingalls in san francisco. this fire a lot of fire units came to the scene and tara moriarty is there as well. she'll have a live report as soon as she gets more information and the crew sets up the cig until here in in-- signal here in san francisco. i want to move to eastbound 580. still picking up an accident there. traffic is slow westbound because people are looking at

the crash. it will be a big problem for the livermore valley. and also looking at the traffic on 880 north and southbound. we've had a lot of fender benders and a lot of single car accidents all over the place because of the wet weather or correlated with the wet weather. please use care. let's go out to live pictures. i want to show you san francisco northbound 101 the freeway here looks good approaching the 80 split. no problems on the san mateo bridge but the driving is not great across any ovines spans. at 5:40 let's go to steve. if you're always on twitter you tweet me. brad says livermore we're getting hammered out here. well it's kind of late to this rain. the rainfall hasn't been that heavy but to the north 1-3 inches of rain. there is a little bit of a break. there is a back edge to this. you can actually see it. it looks like the north by i had reports the rain has ended. there is still a lot of cloud cover. rain right there.

stretching back toward oakland and san francisco. it looks like it's just past the golden gate bridge. it looks like you know you are rounding third and heading for home. it should be ending in the next half hour. not much. you can still see the line. getting a little bit of rain as well. there is plenty to go around here. berkeley, oakland, back over toward the peninsula, san mateo bridge, bay bridge, and antioch. concord to san ramon. some of that has been moderate to heavy. and takes us over to livermore and santa clara valley. it looks like the rain is ending. 50s i mean it's really, really mild. this is a warm system. 45 up in tahoe right now. mostly cloudy and raining. snow level very high. it will see rain taper off

good morning. rain moving through some of it moderate to heavy. otherwise it's cloudy and misty and drizzly. kind of a very mild cloudy day. all right, steve. welcome back good morning, to you. here's a quick look at the top stories we are following for you right now at 5:45. searchers found the body of a man from oakland. he fell into an old quarry filled with water near his home. he was searching for his missing cat in the dark. investigators think the bad weather we're having may have been a factor in his death. travel everies are arrive -- travelers are arriving at sfo this morning. the weather could delay many flights. last night 81 flights were canceled. some of the flights were delayed as long as seven hours because of all the rain.

and today one of the suspects in a violent string of crimes in san jose will be going before a judge for the first time. 26-year-old jonathan wilbanks and another man are accused of four robberies, deadly attempted carjacking, and a shooting that injured a police officer friday night. fremont police are warning online shoppers about a rise in mail and package thefts. take a a look at this surveillance video. it's from trevor's front porch and shot last saturday morning. a package was delivered but then 21 minutes later that woman snatched it up. he says he doesn't know her. the person allegedly stole items left for charity. >> it sucks the stuff put out for the food bank was caught up in the theft. >> if you do buy online consider a signature on all deliveries. fighting between israel and

gaza drags into a second week. civilians on both sides of this say they live in constant fear of attack. israel is still launching air strikes on bah virginia and some of the residents who live there saute are afraid to two to sleep. hamas militants are sending a constant stream of rockets into israel. both israelis and palestinians say living in the middle of all of this is a nightmare. >> it's like rain. like it rains in new york state just rains water. it rains rockets here. every day, every hour. tens of rockets here in the city. st unbelievable. >> you cannot imagine how we feel now when you hear the rockets and missiles when the israeli raids the palestinian buildings. i have a daughter she always hugs me because she is

frightened. >> more than 130 palestinians have been killed since the beginning of all this violence. a lot of them are women and children. at least five israelis have been killed. back here at home this morning ten bay area hospitals are locking out nurses who went on strike yesterday. the nurses walked off the job at eight bay area sutter medical centers and two hca hospitals. they are protesting benefit cut backs as contract talks continue. that is legal but the nurses say they can't allow the hospitals to push them around. hospitals say health care reform is making it hard for them to operate. hospitals have hired replacement workers to work through sunday when this lockout will end. workers at the oakland walmart plan to walk off the job on black friday and apparently will have community support when they do it. church and labor leaders say they will walk the picket lines with those workers on friday morning. they say walmart needs to

provide a livable wage and guaranteed schedules so families can arrange good child care. walmart is the second largest employer of parents receiving child care vouchers in alameda county. instead of black friday how about orange and black instead. the special give aways the world series champs are planning next this season. time now 5:49. with the construction of a new bay bridge just reached a new milestone. those crews just finished transferring the weight of the bridge from a temporary platform to a singling one mile cable. when it's finished the bay bridge will be the longest suspension bridge of its kind in the whole world. yes it's due to open next labor day. time is 5:50. sal has been very busy this morning. how are things looking this >> you know things are still a little rough out there because of the wet weather.

680 southbound is one of the slowest spots here. northbound 680 at washington not that far away. there is a five-car wreck blocking several northbound lanes. southbound traffic also getting good eye. you can see the traffic is slow. also this morning we've had a lot of slow traffic and a lot of fender benders and solo car accidents on the freeway. 880 northbound here looks guidrying past the coliseum. we've had a lot of as i mentioned a lot of cars that have lost control. take it easy. eastbound 580 at greenville road still clearing an accident there. but westbound 580 traffic is not doing very well because of the wet weather. so please give yourself extra time. let's go to steve. thank you, sal. well our system moving through this is the last in this pattern. it looks like we will see a pattern change and in fact we may say goodbye to rain until the first week of december. we may have to deal with the system in the morning. it is moving south and east. and there is still a lot of cloud cover to the west and
